Β
The steps below outline how support typically begins and continues at Ignite, from first contact through to ongoing support.
Β
Support is flexible and adapts as goals, needs, or circumstances change.
Getting started usually begins with an online enquiry, referral, or a phone call with our team. A referral doesnβt need to come from a doctor or specialist, it simply means getting in touch to let us know youβd like support. You can contact us directly, or someone can reach out on your behalf.
At this stage, weβll confirm what youβre hoping support will help with and the goals youβd like to work towards. If youβre not sure about your goals yet, thatβs completely okay, they can start broad and become clearer over time.
If thereβs anything else youβd like us to know, youβre welcome to mention it now or later. Weβll go through practical details together when arranging the appointment.
The focus here is simply on understanding what youβre looking for and making sure weβre starting in the right place.
Once we have a clear sense of your goals and have identified a suitable clinician, weβll work with you to arrange an appointment.
At this point, weβll confirm practical details like timing, location, and funding. Weβll also go through a small number of standard safety and setup questions, so everything is ready for your first session.
Everything is confirmed together before the appointment is booked, so you know what to expect.
Your first session is focused on getting to know you.
Your clinician will spend time understanding whatβs important to you, whatβs working well, and what youβd like support with in everyday life. This may include conversation, observation, and practical activities, depending on whatβs most helpful.
Thereβs no expectation to have everything worked out. Goals can start broad, and itβs expected they may change as things become clearer. The aim is to build a shared understanding and agree on helpful next steps.
Ongoing sessions are shaped around your goals and whatβs most useful in real life.
Support may take place at home, school, work, or in the community, depending on what makes sense for you. Sessions focus on practical support and working towards goals over time.
As things change, goals and priorities can change too. Youβll have clarity around what sessions are working towards, how they link back to your goals, and what the focus is from session to session – with support adapting as needed.
Goals and supports are reviewed regularly to make sure they continue to be helpful and relevant.
Reviews are a chance to look at progress, adjust goals if needed, and confirm next steps. Theyβre a normal part of the process, recognising that peopleβs priorities, circumstances, and goals can change over time.
This helps keep support focused, transparent, and aligned with what matters to you.
