What is Allied Health Assistance?

Imagine you’re on a ship. Your therapist is the captain, charting the course, and your Allied Health Assistant (AHA) is the crew, ensuring everything runs smoothly.

AHAs work under your therapist’s guidance, helping to implement your therapy plan. They support mobility exercises, track progress, and help build new habits, providing the hands-on support needed to make steady progress toward your goals.

How Can An Allied Health Assistant Help Me?

AHAs play a crucial role in the day-to-day implementation of your therapy plan. Here’s how they can support you:

  • Assist with Exercises: AHAs support you with mobility, strength exercises, and functional activities to help improve independence and strength. Whether it’s post-injury rehab or ongoing physical therapy, AHAs provide hands-on assistance.
  • Track Your Progress: AHAs monitor your progress regularly, ensuring your goals are met. They provide updates to your therapist, making necessary adjustments to your plan, so you stay on track.
  • Build Healthy Habits: AHAs play a key role in helping you integrate therapy into daily life. They support you in staying consistent with the tasks and routines that matter most, from practising new skills to maintaining progress outside of therapy sessions.

For example, if you’re working on increasing mobility, your AHA will assist you in performing your exercises properly and help track your improvements over time. If you’re focusing on behavioural strategies, your AHA will support you in practising new habits daily, ensuring consistency and real progress.

Why Work with an Allied Health Assistant?

So, why should you choose an AHA for your therapy? Here’s why they’re a game-changer:

  • More Value for Your Budget: AHAs are more affordable than therapists, so your NDIS funding stretches further, getting you more hours of support.
  • Stay on Track: Regular sessions mean you’re always moving forward with your therapy, with updates and adjustments along the way.
  • The Power of Teamwork: AHAs work hand-in-hand with your therapist, making sure nothing slips through the cracks.

In short, AHAs are the hands-on support that helps you make real progress, with the flexibility and care you need.

The First Session

Your supervising clinician will lead the first session by completing assessments and discussing your goals. They’ll create a tailored support plan and develop an AHA Plan, which your AHA will follow to help you achieve those goals.

Ongoing Sessions

During each session, your AHA will help bring your plan to life – whether it’s through mobility exercises, building routines, or working on specific goals. They’ll track your progress and share updates with your supervising clinician, who will adjust the plan as needed to keep you on track.

What Qualifications Do Your Allied Health Assistants Hold?

Our AHAs are either:

  • Certified: Holding a Certificate or Diploma in Allied Health Assistance.
  • Final-Year Students: In the final year of studying fields like Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, or Speech Pathology.

At Ignite, we’re all about delivering the best care. With regular supervision and professional development, our team stays on top of the latest practices to make sure you get the best support every step of the way.

Meet Our Allied Health Assistants

Gabrielle

Allied Health Team Manager

I began to explore the community sector while still working in the aged care setting, gradually taking on more and more home care package clients.

As the demand for community clients increased, I decided to take on a full-time community role and remained working with elderly Aussie’s (HCP clients), where I formed a keen interest for AT & home modifications.

Nadine

Allied Health Assistant

What ignited my passion for occupational therapy was my grandparents. I was fortunate enough to witness how an occupational therapist helped them live with meaning, instead of just surviving. I knew then that I wanted to be able to create that change for others. Seeing people be able to do things that they previously were not able to fuels my passion and gives me the motivation to keep doing what I’m doing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

For quality assurance, our AHAs only work under the therapy plans created by our internal team of therapists. This ensures we maintain the highest standards of care and can adjust plans as needed to meet your specific goals.

At Ignite, we’re committed to high-quality care. Our AHAs receive ongoing training and professional development to stay current with the latest practices. They’re also supervised by qualified therapists who provide continuous guidance and feedback to ensure you receive the best support possible.

As AHAs work under the guidance of a therapist, you’ll need to start by meeting with a therapist to create your plan. Once it’s in place, the AHA will step in to assist with putting it into action.

If you’re looking for regular, hands-on support to implement your therapy plan, an AHA could be a great fit. Speak with your Support Coordinator or submit a referral with us, and we can discuss how AHA support can help you achieve your goals.

If your therapy plan changes, no worries! Your AHA will team up with your therapist to make sure everything stays on track. They’ll help adjust things as needed, making sure you continue to progress and hit those goals.
