Say hello to Paul

We Heart NDIS_2020

"What motivates me is seeing others benefit from belonging to communities. The impact of communities are magnitudinal. As the age old quote would say, โ€œ... it takes a village โ€ฆโ€, I feel privileged to be a practicing occupational therapist in my โ€œvillageโ€."

What you can expect with Ignite

All supports at Ignite are delivered in collaboration with the person and their support network, with a strong focus on safety, dignity, and quality of life.

ย

The steps below outline how support typically begins and continues at Ignite, from first contact through to ongoing support.

ย

Support is flexible and adapts as goals, needs, or circumstances change.

Getting started

Getting started usually begins with an online enquiry, referral, or a phone call with our team. A referral doesnโ€™t need to come from a doctor or specialist, it simply means getting in touch to let us know youโ€™d like support. You can contact us directly, or someone can reach out on your behalf.

At this stage, weโ€™ll confirm what youโ€™re hoping support will help with and the goals youโ€™d like to work towards. If youโ€™re not sure about your goals yet, thatโ€™s completely okay, they can start broad and become clearer over time.

If thereโ€™s anything else youโ€™d like us to know, youโ€™re welcome to mention it now or later. Weโ€™ll go through practical details together when arranging the appointment.

The focus here is simply on understanding what youโ€™re looking for and making sure weโ€™re starting in the right place.

Once we have a clear sense of your goals and have identified a suitable clinician, weโ€™ll work with you to arrange an appointment.

At this point, weโ€™ll confirm practical details like timing, location, and funding. Weโ€™ll also go through a small number of standard safety and setup questions, so everything is ready for your first session.

Everything is confirmed together before the appointment is booked, so you know what to expect.

Your first session is focused on getting to know you.

Your clinician will spend time understanding whatโ€™s important to you, whatโ€™s working well, and what youโ€™d like support with in everyday life. This may include conversation, observation, and practical activities, depending on whatโ€™s most helpful.

Thereโ€™s no expectation to have everything worked out. Goals can start broad, and itโ€™s expected they may change as things become clearer. The aim is to build a shared understanding and agree on helpful next steps.

Ongoing sessions are shaped around your goals and whatโ€™s most useful in real life.

Support may take place at home, school, work, or in the community, depending on what makes sense for you. Sessions focus on practical support and working towards goals over time.

As things change, goals and priorities can change too. Youโ€™ll have clarity around what sessions are working towards, how they link back to your goals, and what the focus is from session to session – with support adapting as needed.

Goals and supports are reviewed regularly to make sure they continue to be helpful and relevant.

Reviews are a chance to look at progress, adjust goals if needed, and confirm next steps. Theyโ€™re a normal part of the process, recognising that peopleโ€™s priorities, circumstances, and goals can change over time.

This helps keep support focused, transparent, and aligned with what matters to you.

Good to know...

You donโ€™t need fully formed goals to get started.

Goals often develop over time, as needs and circumstances change.

Weโ€™ll work with you to figure out what support makes sense โ€” now and next.
